
Tim Ross is the owner and director of Ross Tactical Training Service, L.L.C., also known as R.T.T.S., or in the shortened version as R.T.S... The business was founded by Mr. Ross approximately 10 years ago as a training entity for law enforcement and military. The training offered would be for patrol, investigative officers and tactical officers. R.T.T.S. is based in Marion County Florida and provides individual agencies with training either at the agencies home territory or through a centralized training facility. Ross Tactical Training Service has trained national and international S.W.A.T. teams for the Florida S.W.A.T. Association at the Swat Round-up International; which is held in Orlando, Florida each year.
Tim has been training officers in firearms and various law enforcement topics for 20 years, at the College of Central Florida, Criminal Justice Institute; which is located in Ocala, Florida. Tim was an instructor for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, from where he retired. During his tenure with Marion County, he wrote firearms training programs, trained defensive tactics, investigative officers, and patrol officers as a field training officer. Tim is recognized as a subject matter expert in firearms training by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement; having assisted in the most recent writing of the firearms training program in 2007.
Tim started in law enforcement with the State of Pennsylvania in 1983. Tim became a certified municipal police officer in the State of Pennsylvania in 1988, by completing the Municipal Police officer Act 120 training through Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 1989 Mr. Ross joined the Marion County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer. He was assigned to the narcotics unit to work undercover operations for approximately 9 months. After that he was reassigned to the patrol division for 5 years in which time he also served on the agency Felony response unit for crimes in progress. Tim then spent 14 months assigned to the town of Riddick, Florida as the sole officer for the town. In 1995 he was chosen to join the Detective Bureau and also was selected to join the agency Special Weapons and Tactics Team. Tim served on S.W.A.T for over 12 years retiring form the team as the sniper team coordinator. He was a sniper / entry team officer for almost 10 years of the 12 years on the team. In 2000 He started a 5 year term as a School Resource Officer in one of Marion County’s High Schools. Tim is a coach for varsity sports in football, baseball wrestling and women’s fast pitch softball. In 2005 Tim again join the ranks of detectives where he was last assigned prior to retiring.
Tim’s training includes several S.W.A.T. and firearms schools of instruction from state, federal and military instructors. He has several schools in counter terrorism for swat and school resource officers. Tim’s has attended schools from the Florida Swat Association and The Homeland Security Agency. Tim is a certified Weapons of Mass Destruction trainer for Homeland Security. While Tim was on the S.W.A.T. Team as a sniper, the M.C.S.O. S.W.A.T. Team was part of the Region III Counter Terrorism Task Force; which is made from select local, state and federal agencies. Tim has attended and been certified as an agency armorer as well as an agency range master and one of the lead instructors.
Tim’s formal education includes being law enforcement certified in two separate states, Florida and Pennsylvania. He has earned an Associate of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering Technology from the University of Pittsburgh, an Associate of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Florida Community College, and a B.A. and a M.S. in Criminal Justice from The University of Central Florida.
